Dear Friends,
2021 is going to be a year of new challenges for all of us. Sometimes it is hard to just relax and enjoy activities that you used to enjoy, in normal circumstances.
I find that chess is still a really good way to put aside all the worries of the moment and just focus deeply on something else, even for just a short while. If you need a challenge and have time to take this test - http://elometer.net/ - I would be interested to hear what your results were in the comments below!
I am planning to continue organising chess tournaments online (https://tornelo.com/chess/orgs/chess-england), producing podcasts (https://anchor.fm/thechesscircuit) and finding some good content for this newsletter. If you have ideas for articles or would like to annotate a game, let me know.
This weekend I have the monthly Hampstead Congress Online, (more details are here - https://chesscircuit.substack.com/p/hampstead-virtual-chess-congress) and in January I am running the London League and the French Youth Championships, as well as a Fiji v Cornwall friendly match!
I’m also continuing to teach chess to groups and individuals online, which has been a success (https://chesscircuit.substack.com/p/improve-your-chess) and is a great way to improve your game whilst we are locked down. Dates coming soon!
Best wishes
Adam Raoof
Took the test, great fun but it gave me 2196!! Way too high, my current ECF rating is 147 - I didn't enter this when it asked about ELO ratings as ECF is different to ELO. Not sure if that makes any difference to the result.
Just taken the test and it gave me a rating of 1756 which seems way too high. I am 61 and have played less than ten serious tournament games in my life. I spend more time watching broadcasts than actually playing. I have a rating of 1450 on chess.com for daily chess. Possibly I gained because there is less chance to blunder than in real games - one of my pitfalls - doing fine then playing one catastrophic move. Rather comforting though and something to build upon
