Albin Planinc (1944-2008) was a supremely talented Slovenian grandmaster who defeated the likes of Vaganian, Beliavsky, Ljubojevic and Timman. There are numerous examples in his games of ingenious sacrificial attacks and an amazing number of Queen sacrifices: his Queen Sacrifice v Vaganian (Hastings 1975) is extremely famous for its intrinsic beauty.
