Don’t forget - the latest in the series of Hampstead Congress-style events is this weekend in two sections - https://chesscircuit.substack.com/p/hampstead-virtual-chess-congress and we may award a special prize to the winner! (see below).
The Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit has taken the lockdown world by storm. Partly this is to do with the particular talents of the actress Anya Taylor-Joy playing the main character Beth Harmon. Mainly, I believe, it is to do with the fact that the game of chess is well-known and respected all over the world. Everyone who watches can relate to the characters and the events on some level.
The Queen’s Gambit has also inspired artists and illustators to produce their own interpretations of the iconic images from the series! I can’t help thinking that this is also helping promote the series amongst a wider, perhaps non-chess playing audience. Thanks to artist Marta Maria Chrostowska for the amazing illustrations in this post, just some of the best examples I have seen - you can buy her artwork here for your own wall - https://www.martachrostowska.co.uk/shop.
There are two sizes available: A3 (£120) or A4 (£60). Worldwide shipping is free and 10% of each sale goes to charity. If you click on a particular print, all the details are there.
This weekend you could win an A3 print (winner should pay P&P and 10% to charity) courtesty of Marta!
