One of the most common questions I am asked is “how do I find chess events to play in?”
This depends what kind of event you want to play in. At the moment there are not many over the board events taking place in the UK. But there are a lot of competitions taking place abroad, if you are adventurous? Or maybe you just want to watch commentary on a major tournament online?
My Chess England events are taking place on Tornelo and Zoom - we have congress style / rapid / blitz tournaments and online chess coaching with something happening pretty much every week - https://chesscircuit.substack.com/p/calendar-of-online-events
If you are looking for Titled Arenas, Banter Blitz, various online streams, then check out the POGchess calendar - http://pogchess.com/. However it is easy to go to something like Twitch.TV and search for chess, and come up with some great streamers, like - https://www.twitch.tv/chesspatzeruk!
The major chess sites all provide great commentary on events, but the best resource for the last 25 years to keep track of what’s going on and where is TWIC=The Week In Chess, run by Mark Crowther - https://theweekinchess.com/ - he keeps a beady eye on goings-on, so you don’t have to!
The English Chess Federation (ECF) Calendar (includes online and is usually very detailed and reliable) - https://www.englishchess.org.uk/event-calendar/
ECF Online Events for the Coming Week - join the ECF as a supporter and they will send you a calendar of online events (their own) every week, and a newsletter. Read about the membership levels here - https://www.englishchess.org.uk/ecf-membership-2020-21/
The FIDE (=World Chess Federation) Calendar vs The Calendar of FIDE rated events. There is a difference!
All official FIDE events are listed here - https://www.fide.com/calendar plus organisers can fill in a form to submit their events to appear below (scroll down).
HOWEVER - any tournaments that are registered with FIDE will appear here - https://ratings.fide.com/rated_tournaments.phtml - this should be a comprehensive list.
If I have missed out any resources, just leave a comment or email me at adamraoof@gmail.com and let me know, so I can add them to this page!
